Lake Lynn, man-made lake in Raleigh, North Carolina
Lake Lynn is a reservoir in North Raleigh created in 1976 and surrounded by a 75-acre park with paved trails and wooden boardwalks. The paths wind about 2.8 miles around the water, passing through shaded woods, open meadows, and marshy areas where wildlife gathers.
Lake Lynn was built in 1976 to control flooding and manage water for the North Raleigh area. The adjoining park expanded over time, with a community center opening in 1996 to provide recreation facilities for residents.
Lake Lynn serves as a gathering place where neighbors come to walk, bike, and spend time outdoors together. The trail and water views have become part of the local community's daily rhythm.
The park opens at dawn and closes at dusk daily, with large parking lots on Ray Road and Lynn Road near the community center. The flat, paved trails work well for walkers, runners, and bikers of all ages, and leashed dogs are welcome.
A special feature is the Lake Lynn Journal, a metal box with a book on the east side where visitors write their thoughts and share personal stories. This quiet project builds connection among people visiting the lake.
