Agamont Park, Public park in Bar Harbor, United States
Agamont Park is a public park at the eastern end of West Street featuring open lawns and walking paths along the waterfront. From here, visitors can see across the harbor and toward Mount Desert Island.
The park takes its name from the first hotel in Bar Harbor, built by Tobias Roberts in 1857 on this site. The Agamont House burned down in 1888, after which the land became public space.
The location attracted painters of the Hudson River School during the 1800s, who found inspiration in the surrounding landscapes. The views across the water and mountains became popular subjects for their work.
The park offers walking paths, benches for resting, and grassy areas suitable for picnicking. Parking is available nearby, making it easy to visit and spend time exploring the waterfront area.
The name comes from a child's interpretation of 'Aqua Mont,' referring to the hill's location near the water. Roberts' granddaughter created this term, which has remained tied to the place ever since.
