Tom W. Davis Tower, Clock tower at Ohio State University in Columbus, United States
Tom W. Davis Tower is a clock tower on the north campus of Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, standing about 75 feet (23 meters) tall. It features a large LED screen on its face that can be seen from many points across that part of campus.
Tom W. Davis, a businessman from central Ohio, donated funds in the mid-2010s to build the tower on the north campus. It was the first structure of this kind to be added to that part of the university grounds.
The base of the tower has quotes from notable figures carved into the stone, which students often stop to read between classes. This gives the spot a quiet purpose in the middle of a busy campus day.
The tower works well as a meeting point near the North Recreation Center, and its bells chime on the hour to help with orientation. It is easy to reach on foot from most other parts of the north campus.
After the tower opened, students started online campaigns asking the university to run a game of Tetris on the LED screen. The idea was never officially approved, but it became one of the most talked-about proposals on campus.
