Falls Creek Alpine Resort, unincorporated area of Victoria, Australia

Falls Creek Alpine Resort is a year-round mountain village situated high in Victoria's high country among forests and open spaces. The settlement clusters accommodations, cafes, and rental shops close to the ski slopes and hiking trails, making them easily accessible from one another.

The first ski lodge was built in 1948 and the first tow lift opened in 1951, marking the beginning of organized skiing at this location. Later, the installation of lift systems and hosting of international competitions like the Kangaroo Hoppet played key roles in developing the resort into an established destination.

The name Falls Creek refers to the waterfalls that flow through the area. Today the village functions as a social hub for outdoor enthusiasts, with small cafes and equipment shops serving as gathering places where visitors connect after their activities.

The resort sits high in the mountains and is easily reached by car from nearby cities, with roads winding up into the peaks. Visitors should prepare for changing weather and bring appropriate clothing for the season, as conditions differ greatly between summer and winter months.

The resort offers Victoria's largest ski and snowboard terrain and allows visitors to ski directly from their accommodations onto the snow. This closeness to the slopes makes it a rare mountain settlement where lodging and skiing are completely intertwined.
