Chvojkovy lomy, Public park and former quarry in Východní Předměstí, Czechia
Chvojkovy lomy is a public park built on a former quarry site with walking paths, green spaces, and recreational areas throughout the grounds. The park features different zones designed for outdoor activities and community use.
The site originated as a sandstone quarry that operated intensively from the late 1800s through the early 1900s. Later the abandoned quarry was transformed into a park for public use and recreation.
The site features a ceramic tower sculpture built in 1996 that holds a world record for the largest ceramic clay artwork. This sculpture has become a visual landmark that draws visitors interested in contemporary art installations.
The park is open throughout the day and night, offering opportunities for running, cycling, and other outdoor activities. Facilities are available near the TJ Lokomotiva sports club for visitors with varied recreational interests.
The grounds include a swimming pool and spaces for community gatherings at the edges of the park. These additional features show how an old industrial site has been completely transformed into a multifunctional recreational destination.
