Ebrach Abbey, Cistercian monastery in Bavaria, Germany.
The monastery complex includes a Gothic church with a large rose window and three aisles, surrounded by Baroque buildings arranged around multiple courtyards.
Established in 1127 by nobleman Berno, Ebrach Abbey became the first Cistercian monastery east of the Rhine and housed over 300 monks at its peak.
The abbey church contains burial sites for the hearts of Würzburg bishops, while their bodies were interred elsewhere, following a centuries-old tradition.
Visitors can access the church and museum from April through October, with guided tours available Tuesday through Sunday between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
Part of the former monastery now functions as a young offenders' institution, while maintaining its status as an architectural heritage monument.
