Baumwipfelpfad Steigerwald, Forest canopy walkway in Bamberg, Germany

Baumwipfelpfad Steigerwald is a wooden pathway that winds through the canopy of Ebrach Forest, carrying visitors up to 26 meters above ground over a distance of 1150 meters. The route passes through dense forest while offering views across the treetops from different angles.

The forest path was created by the Steigerwald Nature Park administration to introduce visitors to local forestry through direct experience. The project emerged from an effort to make natural areas accessible while promoting awareness of forest conservation.

The path reveals how local people have lived alongside the forest for generations and depend on its resources. Stations along the way explain traditional forestry practices and how the woods are managed today.

The walkway is open throughout the year, with peak visitor numbers arriving in autumn, which can make the path crowded at times. Visiting early in the day is recommended for a quieter experience, and sturdy shoes are advisable since the wooden surface can become slippery in wet conditions.

At the end of the route stands an observation tower reached by a gently sloping ramp that is fully accessible for wheelchair users and strollers alike. This thoughtful design allows people with varying mobility needs to reach the top and experience the full extent of the views available.
