Soviet sculptor Lev Kerbel created the monument in 1971 when Chemnitz was known as Karl-Marx-Stadt during the German Democratic Republic period.
The monument displays the phrase 'Workers of the world, unite' in German, English, French, and Russian on the bronze wall behind the sculpture.
The monument stands at Brückenstraße 10-14 in central Chemnitz, providing wheelchair accessibility and serving as a meeting point for local residents.
The sculpture consists of 95 individual bronze pieces cast in Leningrad, weighing 40 tonnes after assembly at the VEB Germania factory.
