Granitz Hunting Lodge, 19th-century Gothic Revival hunting lodge in Sellin, Germany

Granitz Hunting Lodge is a Gothic Revival brick building with four corner towers and a prominent central tower that rises prominently above the Rügen landscape. The structure sits among wooded grounds and occupies an elevated position offering extensive views across the region.

Construction was commissioned in the mid-19th century by a local prince and took several years to complete. The building emerged during a period when this architectural style was favored by European nobility.

The name comes from its original purpose as a hunting retreat for nobility. Today, visitors walk through richly furnished rooms and grand halls that reflect the lifestyle of its former residents.

The central tower is accessible by climbing an internal staircase that requires moderate physical effort to navigate. Sturdy footwear is recommended, and visitors should note that elevator access is not available throughout the structure.

Inside the central tower winds a self-supporting cast-iron spiral staircase built without a central column, an engineering feat from its era. This structural innovation remains intact today and showcases the technical skill of 19th-century metalworkers.
