Niedernhausen

Niedernhausen is a municipality in Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis situated on the southern slopes of the Taunus mountains. Forests cover much of the landscape, and the municipality comprises six separate localities spread across the terrain.

Archaeological finds near Oberjosbach point to early human settlement dating back to the Bronze Age. The region later came under Roman control, as evidenced by the remains of their military installations.

The six localities including Oberjosbach and Niederseelbach each retain their own identity and shape the character of the municipality. You notice these differences when walking through the various districts, where local traditions and architecture remain visible today.

The area is located about 9 kilometers from Wiesbaden and is easily reached by public transport. The different localities are connected by country roads, and the surroundings are suitable for hiking and exploring.

The Limes, a Roman frontier wall, runs between Oberseelbach and Idstein and is today part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. This ancient structure stands as one of the most significant witnesses to Roman presence in the region.
