Burg AM transmitter, Radio transmission facility in Burg, Germany.
The Burg AM transmitter is a broadcast facility near Burg in Saxony-Anhalt with two prominent masts designed for radio transmission. The installation uses steel lattice tower construction and additional antenna structures to deliver radio signals across vast distances.
The facility began broadcasting in 1953 and was the tallest structure in East Germany at that time. It marked a major milestone in Eastern European radio infrastructure and maintained its regional importance for decades.
The station broadcasted Radio Wolga on longwave frequency and served as a platform for Deutsche Freiheitssender 904, connecting audiences across different regions.
The facility is located near the Brehm district and is visible from nearby roads but cannot be entered. Visitors can photograph the impressive structure from a distance and appreciate its scale from various vantage points in the surrounding area.
One of the original masts collapsed in 1976 due to a defective bolt, leaving visible foundation ruins at the site. These remains serve as a reminder of the technical challenges involved in operating such enormous structures.
