Schloss Absberg, Baroque château in Absberg, Germany.
Schloss Absberg is a Baroque structure arranged in three wings spanning three stories, facing northward with carefully proportioned facades. Inside, the rooms display ornate stucco work and painted decorations that reflect the refined taste of its original builders.
Construction took place between 1723 and 1726 under Karl Heinrich von Hornstein's direction, rebuilding after an earlier castle was destroyed in 1523 during a regional conflict. This reconstruction marked an important statement of the local nobility's strength and permanence.
The château chapel, constructed in 1777, transformed into the Parish Church of St. Ottilia in 1834, serving the religious needs of the local community.
The building now operates as a care facility run by the Regens-Wagner Foundation, which limits public access to its interior spaces. Contact ahead to learn about any visiting possibilities, since the current use takes priority over tourism.
A fire in 1969 destroyed the former knights' hall, forcing significant structural changes to the building's layout. Architect Friedrich Ferdinand Haindl undertook an expansion in 1991 that adapted the structure to its contemporary purpose.
