Homburg

Homburg is a castle ruin sitting on elevated ground near Hamm, with stone remains that reveal medieval construction and how the fortress was laid out. The visible ruins show where the main buildings, towers, and defensive walls once stood in relation to one another.

The castle was built in the Middle Ages as a military stronghold to control the surrounding area. Over time it was abandoned and gradually fell into ruin, leaving only the stone remains visible today.

The ruins show how medieval fortifications were designed for defense and everyday life in one structure. You can see where guards watched from towers and where people lived and worked within the stone walls.

The site is accessible via marked walking trails that start from the parking area at the base of the hill. Wear sturdy shoes because the ground is uneven and can be muddy or damp in places.

The foundation stones are arranged in a way that clearly shows the original floor plan of the castle. This lets visitors understand the layout and purposes of different rooms and spaces without needing explanatory signs or buildings.
