Gartenschau Kaiserslautern, Botanical garden in Kaiserslautern, Germany.
Gartenschau Kaiserslautern is a public park on the eastern edge of the city of Kaiserslautern, made up of several themed garden sections with flower beds, tree collections, and landscaped areas. A network of paths runs through the whole site, linking each section together.
The grounds were laid out for the Federal Garden Show of 1984, when Kaiserslautern transformed a disused area on the edge of the city into a park for the event. After the show ended, the site stayed open as a permanent public park.
Many visitors come to walk through the themed garden sections, which change in appearance with the seasons. Families with children are a common sight, as there are play areas alongside the planted zones.
The park has several entry points and can be reached by car or public transport. A visit works best from spring through autumn, when the planted areas are at their most colorful.
Old bridge columns from Berlin stand in the park, covered in colorful animal murals painted by a graffiti artist. These columns once supported an elevated railway bridge in Berlin and were brought to Kaiserslautern after the structure was demolished.
