Krieler Dömchen

Krieler Dömchen is a Romanesque church building in Cologne's Lindenthal district, featuring rounded arches and sturdy columns that reveal its solid medieval construction. A pyramidal roof tower with an external staircase accessing the gallery forms a distinctive part of its exterior appearance.

This church rose between the 10th and 11th centuries on the site of former Roman brickworks, serving as the parish church for the surrounding area. The building's religious function ended in 1887 when the congregation moved its services elsewhere.

The small church drew visitors passing through on pilgrimage routes, and its interior decoration once reflected the everyday religious life of the local community. The three different altars showed how medieval worshippers honored various saints and sacred themes in their devotions.

The church building sits in an accessible location with good public transportation connections in an established residential neighborhood of Cologne. Visitors should check current opening times in advance, as access can vary depending on ongoing events or maintenance work.

The churchyard on the south side served as Lindenthal's earliest burial ground, with local families laid to rest there until 1869. The graves and tombstones still tell stories of generations connected to this location.
