Markt

Markt is a large paved square in Leipzig's center featuring granite flooring with the city's coat of arms set into its middle. Historic buildings and modern shops line the perimeter, creating an enclosed space that welcomes foot traffic from all sides.

The square developed as a trading marketplace in the Old Town and became Leipzig's most important market area for centuries. After World War II, it was briefly renamed but later restored to reflect its original purpose and identity.

The square serves as a meeting point where residents and visitors gather throughout the day, shopping and socializing in the heart of the Old Town. You will find groups of people using the shops and sitting together in the central areas, making it a lived-in community space.

The square is easily walkable with several entry points from surrounding streets making it simple to find your way in. A nearby underground station and tram services provide convenient public transportation options if you need them.
