Niederwürzbacher Schlösser, Baroque castle complex in Blieskastel, Germany
Niederwürzbacher Schlösser is a castle complex of two country houses in Saarpfalz-Kreis, arranged around a pond. The ensemble includes Annahof with its distinctive round form and Monplaisir with red-colored walls, complemented by former outbuildings such as the current Forsthaus.
The complex was built in the late 1700s under Count von der Leyen as a display of wealth and power. It suffered major damage during fighting in 1792, from which only portions recovered.
The buildings show a blend of forms that combine practical function with architectural beauty. The red plaster on Monplaisir and the round structure of Annahof still define the appearance of the ensemble today.
The site is partly accessible, but visitors should note that not all buildings can be entered. It helps to admire the exterior architecture and enjoy the pond area when weather permits, since some areas remain off-limits to the public.
Annahof was a building with a dual purpose, its side wings designed to house Swiss cows while maintaining its grand appearance. This unusual blend of luxury design with farm functions shows how nobility managed their estates.
