Pestenacker, Archaeological site in Weil, Germany.

Pestenacker is an archaeological excavation site in Weil that displays the remains of Neolithic housing structures with preserved wooden floors and building elements. The site contains multiple structures from a prehistoric settlement that have been carefully uncovered.

The settlement was accidentally discovered in 1934 when a brook was straightened and the remains were exposed. Between 1988 and 1993, extensive excavations uncovered the full extent and structure of this Neolithic dwelling place.

This settlement was a community where Neolithic people made everyday objects like containers, tools, and clothing that visitors can see displayed today. These artifacts reveal how practical skills and knowledge shaped the daily lives of these early inhabitants.

The excavation site is accessible to visitors during spring and autumn months, though winter conditions typically make access more difficult. An associated museum displays the discoveries up close and explains the methods used to uncover the site.

Among the finds was Bavaria's oldest piece of clothing: a pointed hat made from flax fiber and linden bark that shows how sophisticated textile making was even then. This rare item was carefully preserved and is now on display.
