St. Marien- und St. Nikolai-Friedhof I, Heritage cemetery in Prenzlauer Berg, Germany
The St. Marien- und St. Nikolai-Friedhof I extends across 35,400 square meters, featuring numerous historical graves and monuments along winding paths.
Established in 1802 for the Marienkirche and Nikolai Church congregations, the cemetery underwent expansions in 1814 and 1847 to accommodate growing burial needs.
The cemetery contains graves of notable German artists, including painter Bernhard Rode and professor Christian Johann Richter, representing different periods of Berlin society.
The cemetery opens from 8 AM to 6 PM during summer months and 9 AM to 5 PM in winter, with the main entrance located on Prenzlauer Allee.
The eastern wall preserves burial sites displaying various architectural styles, while section II remains closed to protect naturally developed vegetation since 1970.
