St.-Michaelskirche

St.-Michaelskirche stands with its stone walls, double arcade windows, and four-story tower at the edge of Burgfelden in Albstadt.

The church foundation dates back to the 8th century, serving as a central religious hub for six communities, the Wannental monastery, and Schalksburg chapel.

The interior walls display Romanesque frescoes from 1070, painted by monks from the Reichenau monastery school, discovered during roof renovations in 1892.

The church maintains regular opening hours for visitors to examine the medieval frescoes and architectural elements from different construction periods.

Two original bells from 1416 and 1426 were transferred to the new church building, located 200 meters southeast of the old structure.
