Albstadt, Mountain city in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Albstadt is a town on the Swabian Alb in Baden-W"{u}rttemberg that stretches between Stuttgart and Lake Constance at 731 meters elevation. The houses and neighborhoods spread across several hills and valleys of the limestone plateau.
The town was created in 1975 by merging several smaller communities on the plateau. Three larger earthquakes in 1911, 1943 and 1978 damaged buildings and led to the reconstruction of entire streets.
Textile production still shapes the townscape today, visible in old factory sites and preserved industrial buildings. Visitors find exhibitions about looms, spinning machines and the development of regional manufacturing in the town's nine museums.
The neighborhoods lie scattered at different elevations, so a car or local bus service is recommended for longer distances. The Albstadt-Sigmaringen University is located in the Ebingen district and brings activity to the area especially on weekdays.
The company Groz-Beckert produces a large share of the world's industrial sewing needles in the town. The factory employs over a thousand workers and supplies customers on all continents.
