Burg Hossingen

Burg Hossingen is a castle set on a ridge at about 830 meters in elevation, where remnants of medieval walls and two deep defensive ditches are still visible today. The foundations scattered across the site mark where buildings once stood during its active years.

The castle was built in the 12th century as a strategic stronghold by officials serving the Counts of Hohenberg. It passed to Württemberg in 1418 and gradually declined from that point onward.

The chapel here was long connected to Martin's Church in Ebingen and served as a burial place for Hossingen residents. This link shows how closely the castle and village were woven together in their religious life.

Marked trails wind through the ruins and make it easy to explore the site on foot. The best time to visit is during drier months, as the ground becomes slippery after rain.

Excavations since 1916 have uncovered many artifacts and wall sections from different periods. This archaeological work has revealed important details about how medieval fortifications were built in this region.
