St.-Stephani-und-Bartholomäi-Kirche

St.-Stephani-und-Bartholomäi-Kirche is a neoclassical brick building in Detern with large round-arch windows and a distinctive mansard roof. A 15th-century bell tower stands alongside the main structure, creating an ensemble that blends two different architectural periods.

The current building was erected in 1806, replacing earlier churches that dated back to the 11th century. A notable moment occurred in 1399 when chieftain Widzeld tom Brok sought refuge there, marking a significant chapter in the site's past.

The interior displays Lutheran heritage through four chandeliers, including one with a swan symbol, and a pulpit from 1692 decorated with carvings of the evangelists. These furnishings shape the character of the church space today.

The church houses one of East Frisia's largest single-manual organs, built in 1819 and containing twelve registers. This technical feature made it a remarkable musical instrument for the region.
