Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf station, Railway station and classification yard in Chemnitz, Germany.
Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf station is a stop with passenger service and a large freight classification yard located in the Hilbersdorf district. The complex includes tracks for freight operations, passenger platforms, and several original buildings from the 1800s along Ebersdorf Street.
This station opened in January 1893 and was renamed Karl-Marx-Stadt-Hilbersdorf from 1953 to 1990. It developed as a major railway junction supporting the industrial growth of the Chemnitz region.
The Saxon Railway Museum now occupies the former locomotive depot, offering a window into how railway workers lived and labored at this busy transportation hub. Visitors can see original equipment and machines that were essential to daily operations.
The station is accessible from Ebersdorf Street and provides entry to tracks in both directions. Service runs every 30 minutes on the Dresden-Zwickau route and the City-Bahn Chemnitz to Hainichen, making arrival and departure relatively flexible.
The freight yard was once the second largest marshalling facility in the Dresden railway division and played a key role in regional logistics. Its closure in 1999 marked the end of a major era in goods transport across Saxony.
