Bucher Höhle, Cave entrance and geotope in Postbauer-Heng, Germany
The Bucher Höhle extends 400 meters into the mountain with a 20-meter-wide entrance, located at an elevation of 568 meters in Bavaria.
Between World War I and World War II, local farmers extracted fine-grained quartz sand from this cave, transporting it to Nuremberg through Postbauer-Heng station.
The cave represents a significant part of Bavaria's geological heritage, contributing to the understanding of natural formations in the Franconian Jura region.
Visitors need to plan their explorations between April and October, as the cave remains closed during winter months to protect hibernating bat populations.
This natural formation marks the northernmost cave in the karst area of the Franconian Jura, featuring two entrance points and multiple interior chambers.
