Clus Abbey church

Clus Abbey church is a Gothic building with three aisles, pointed arches, and ribbed vaults throughout its interior. The extended choir section was completed in 1485 and remains a defining feature of the church's layout.

The abbey was founded in 1127 and initially served as a daughter monastery of Gandersheim Abbey before being dissolved in 1596 following the Reformation.

The church still serves as a place of worship and shows how religious buildings in this region developed over centuries. Visitors can observe how Romanesque and Gothic elements coexist and shaped the region's architectural evolution.

Visit during daytime when natural light highlights the Gothic details throughout the building. Guided tours on site provide explanations of the church's architecture and its past.

The high altar was brought from Lübeck in 1487 and remains a centerpiece of the church's interior today. This ornate work shows the medieval connections between distant religious centers.
