Schloss Poxau, Palace with pentagonal courtyard in Marklkofen, Germany.
Schloss Poxau is a three-story building complex with gables surrounding a pentagonal courtyard in Marklkofen. The Catholic Chapel of Saint Charles Borromaeus sits in the southeastern part of the compound.
The Herren von Poxau family built the original estate in the 12th century. In the early 18th century, a major renovation under Adam Lorenz Freiherr von Alt gave it its current shape.
The place served as a convent for many years and continues to shape the spiritual life of the area. The chapel in the southeastern section shows how faith and daily life were closely connected here.
The location functions as a civil registry office and enables wedding ceremonies on certain Saturdays between April and October. Visitors should know that the building primarily serves administrative functions, so regular tours may be limited.
The northwestern section of the palace contains carefully preserved architectural elements from the 16th century. These older parts show building techniques from German-speaking regions and offer insight into earlier construction methods.
