Friedhof Connewitz, Cultural heritage cemetery in Connewitz, Leipzig, Germany.
Friedhof Connewitz is a burial ground covering about 3.5 hectares and divided into 28 sections with pathways throughout. The layout follows a rectangular design with an Art Deco chapel from 1927 at its center.
The cemetery was established on January 17, 1882, replacing an older burial ground where the Paul-Gerhardt-Kirche now stands. It marks an important moment in the urban development of the Connewitz district.
The chapel displays Art Deco design with a sandstone relief showing kneeling figures and crosses. Visitors can experience how burial grounds were artistically designed during the early twentieth century.
The cemetery is located at Meusdorfer Straße 80 with marked pathways making navigation straightforward between grave sites. Summer hours begin earlier in the day, while winter opening times start later.
The cemetery holds the graves of thirty Gray Sisters who worked at Elisabeth Hospital, along with multiple memorial stones from World War I. These burial sites tell stories of medical workers and soldiers whose histories connect to the local community.
