Bahnbetriebswerk Rosenheim, Railway maintenance facility in Rosenheim, Germany.
The Bahnbetriebswerk Rosenheim is a railway facility consisting of several buildings spread across a large industrial site. The main structure is a rectangular locomotive shed with five tracks, alongside an administration building and a two-track carriage workshop.
The facility was built in 1857 following the completion of the Maximiliansbahn railway line connecting Munich to Kufstein. It operated for over a century until operations relocated to Mühldorf am Inn in 1989.
The maintenance facility was once the largest employer in Rosenheim, providing work for hundreds of skilled workers who kept locomotives and carriages running. The complex shaped the city's identity as a railway hub for generations.
The buildings can be viewed from Brünnsteinstraße, though access to the interior and northern areas is restricted for safety reasons. An external view from the street provides the best way to appreciate the site's historical character.
The site featured a 26-meter turntable used to rotate locomotives, which remained in operation until it was dismantled in 2005. This mechanism demonstrates the technical sophistication needed to manage large railway operations in that era.
