Berlin South-Western Cemetery, War cemetery and historic site in Stahnsdorf, Germany
The Berlin South-Western Cemetery extends over 206 hectares, making it the largest church-owned Christian cemetery in Germany and tenth largest worldwide.
Established in 1909, the cemetery received 33,000 relocated graves from Schöneberg parish cemeteries and houses 1,172 Commonwealth war graves from World War I.
The wooden chapel, constructed between 1908 and 1911, mirrors Norwegian stave church architecture and contains Art Nouveau stained glass windows.
The cemetery maintains sections for different religious denominations and features organized paths connecting the Cross of Sacrifice with the Stone of Remembrance.
The cemetery grounds support 40 bird species, 200 butterfly species, and 300 insect species, creating a natural sanctuary within its borders.
