Burg Dauchstein, Medieval castle ruin in Binau, Germany
The castle ruin stands 20 meters tall on a rocky plateau above the Neckar River, featuring a residential tower with dimensions of 6x6 meters.
Built around 1150 during the Hohenstaufen dynasty, the castle served as a customs point where chains across the Neckar River controlled river traffic.
The structure represents medieval German defensive architecture with its bergfried, shield wall, and remaining sections of the ring wall and residential palace.
The castle ruins remain in private ownership, requiring visitors to respect posted access signs and maintain distance from residential areas.
The residential tower contains an advanced internal toilet system and narrow stairs carved directly into the outer wall, uncommon features for medieval castles.
