Burg Burglengenfeld, Medieval castle in Burglengenfeld, Germany.
Burg Burglengenfeld is a castle ruin on a hill above the town of the same name in Bavaria. It consists of wall remains, tower stumps, and a partly standing perimeter wall that encircles the grounds.
The castle dates back to the 10th century and was greatly expanded between 1123 and 1146 under the Wittelsbach family. Later centuries brought additional building phases before the complex fell into ruin.
The castle served as the residence of local noble families and shaped Burglengenfeld's identity as a symbol of power. The ruins still show the traces of this medieval rule through foundations and towers that reflect the lives of those who once occupied it.
The grounds are only accessible on guided tours arranged in advance with the castle keeper. Sturdy shoes are recommended, as the terrain is uneven and the entire visit is on foot.
Among the surviving structures are the remains of the Sinzenhofer Tower and a powder tower, each from a different building phase. Their contrasting forms and positions on the site show how the castle changed shape over the centuries.
