The triangular castle stands in the center of Cleeberg, featuring preserved sections of the ring wall with tower remains and a residential building.
In 1040, Giselbert von Gleiberg divided the Lahngau county with his brother Hermann, receiving the southern part including the future Cleeberg dominion.
The castle exemplifies medieval German architecture through its defensive structure and residential elements, representing regional building techniques of its time.
The castle remains in private ownership as residential apartments since 1981, and visitors must respect that the property is not open to the public.
The fortress features an unusual bergfried tower with a rounded side facing the courtyard instead of the expected attack direction.
