Oberfränkisches Bauernhofmuseum Kleinlosnitz, Agricultural heritage museum in Zell im Fichtelgebirge, Germany
The Oberfränkisches Bauernhofmuseum Kleinlosnitz is an open-air museum with real farm buildings and structures showing rural life in Upper Franconia. The buildings hold original tools, machines, and household items that show how farming families worked and lived in this region.
The heart of the site is a four-sided farmstead called Dietel-Hof that dates back more than 200 years with recorded agricultural history. Founded in 1983, the museum was created to preserve these buildings and keep the memory of farming alive.
The farmstead layout and room arrangements show how families and livestock shared space in the old farming traditions of this region. Walking through, you can see how daily tasks and seasonal work structured the entire household routine.
The museum offers guided tours to explore the buildings and their purposes, along with regular craft demonstrations and special events throughout the year. Wear good walking shoes since the site requires moving around outdoors on paths that are not always paved.
The interior walls of the main house show more than 100 different layers of paint that reveal how decoration and color choices changed over the decades. These layers are a visual record of how tastes and access to materials shifted during the building's life.
