Volkspark Anton Saefkow, Public park in Prenzlauer Berg, Germany
Volkspark Anton Saefkow is an 8-hectare green space in Pankow with walking paths, playgrounds, sports facilities, and numerous benches throughout. The layout includes open lawns and is well-structured for various activities.
The site was founded in 1955 as Gumbinner Grund and received its current name in 1956 to honor resistance fighter Anton Saefkow. This renaming marked a deliberate memory of his struggle against oppression.
The central monument honors Anton Saefkow and his role in resisting Nazi rule. Visitors encounter an important symbol of local history that invites reflection.
The park underwent extensive renovations from 2017 to 2020, adding accessible ramps, new fitness equipment, and improved pathways. Visitors will find well-maintained conditions for various activities today.
The entire park rests on a 15-meter-high foundation made from post-war rubble containing about 40,000 cubic meters of debris. This hidden base connects the park's daily use directly to the city's wartime past.
