Museum Jorn

Museum Jorn is an art museum alongside the Gudenå river in Silkeborg, housing a collection of over 30,000 artworks from Denmark and abroad. The building contains works spanning different artistic movements and time periods across its gallery spaces.

The museum opened in 1965 and relocated to its present riverside location in 1982 in a purpose-built structure. This move allowed the institution to better display its expanding collection and accommodate growing visitor numbers.

The collection brings together artworks from different periods and countries that dialogue with each other across the gallery spaces. This range shows how artistic ideas connect and influence one another regardless of borders or origin.

The museum sits in Silkeborg along the river with straightforward access and plenty of space to move through the galleries. Plan to spend several hours to see the different areas and collections at a comfortable pace.

Two large ceramic walls by Jean Dubuffet and Pierre Alechinsky form the entrance, creating an expressive welcome. These artworks establish the tone for the creative experience that follows inside.
