Radiohuset, Concert hall and broadcasting house in Frederiksberg Municipality, Denmark
Radiohuset is a multifaceted complex with distinct sections designed for different purposes, including recording studios, a large concert hall, and broadcast areas. The entire facility was constructed between 1938 and 1945 using a modern, efficient design approach.
Construction began in 1938, but workers deliberately slowed progress during World War II to prevent the occupying forces from using the complex. After the war, it remained a center of Danish radio production for many decades.
This place has become a center for musical activity and training in the region. The spaces are now filled with students and musicians who use the facilities daily, making it an active hub for creative work.
The complex is no longer used for broadcasting but now serves the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Check beforehand which sections are open to visitors, as parts of the building may have restricted access depending on academic schedules and events.
The studio section features rooftop gardens that serve a dual purpose: they provide visual interest while also damping sound from the broadcasting areas below. This practical design choice reflects how form and function merge throughout the building.
