Architect Niels Sigfred Nebelong designed this lighthouse in 1848 to replace the original White Lighthouse, marking a new era in Danish maritime safety.
The structure houses the Skagen Grey Lighthouse Center for Migratory Birds, providing an interactive exhibition space and bird observatory for researchers.
Visitors can access the lighthouse from April through October, with extended hours from mid-June to August, operating from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The lighthouse contains a two-tonne rotating lens that floats on mercury, projecting light visible up to 37 kilometers every four seconds through a sodium lamp.
