Alu manor, Medieval manor in Rapla Parish, Estonia
Alu Manor is a Neo-Gothic estate in Rapla Parish marked by a distinctive corner tower and ornamental balustrades that frame its exterior. The main structure displays the elaborate detail and vertical emphasis typical of this architectural style.
The estate appeared in records as early as 1409, though the current building rose between 1862 and 1875 under the von Lilienfeld family. This construction period coincided with the region under Russian rule, when landowners favored impressive country residences.
The manor reflects the tastes of Baltic nobility who chose Neo-Gothic style to express their status and refinement. This architectural preference was common among wealthy landowners throughout the region during the 1800s.
The manor sits at Keskuse tee 2 and currently serves as a training facility for the National Defence League of Estonia. Visitors should note that the grounds are actively used, so access may be limited depending on training schedules.
The estate is surrounded by a series of ponds that form part of the original landscape design and give the property a distinctive water element. These ponds remain intact today and contribute significantly to the character of the site.
