Arrecife

Located at an elevation of 20 meters, Arrecife extends along the eastern coast of Lanzarote with volcanic reefs protecting its main beach areas.

The settlement originated as a fishing village in the fifteenth century, gaining prominence after 1852 when it became the official capital of Lanzarote island.

The Castillo de San José, constructed in the 18th century, now functions as a modern art museum displaying contemporary collections above the harbor area.

The Port of Arrecife serves as the primary maritime gateway to Lanzarote, connecting the island with regular ferry services to other Canary Islands and mainland destinations.

The Charco de San Ginés lagoon contains a network of small canals with anchored fishing boats, surrounded by white-painted buildings and waterfront establishments.
