Tibidabo, Amusement park on Mount Tibidabo, Barcelona, Spain.
Tibidabo is an amusement park on a 516-meter summit in Barcelona combining traditional rides with modern attractions across six levels. The complex includes mechanical carousels from the early years alongside contemporary roller coasters and offers views over the city and Mediterranean Sea.
Salvador Andreu i Grau opened the park in 1901, making it the oldest operating amusement park in Spain and the third oldest in Europe. The pharmacist developed the site alongside the construction of the funicular railway that brought visitors to the summit.
Visitors step into the historic airplane and original train cars from the early decades that still perform their mechanical movements today. Families have been coming here for generations and sit on the same painted wooden benches their grandparents knew.
The funicular railway runs from the lower station at the city edge directly to the site and avoids the steep walk up. Several bus lines connect the city center to the lower station and make the journey easier without a private vehicle.
Walt Disney visited the park in 1957 and wanted to buy the collection of mechanical automatons to use them as inspiration for his own properties. The operators declined the offer and preserved the original figures until today.
