Tibidabo, Mountain summit in Collserola range, Barcelona, Spain.
Tibidabo is a 512-meter (1679 feet) summit in the Collserola range that rises above Barcelona and offers views of the city and the Mediterranean. A church and an amusement park stand on the peak, making the site a recognizable landmark.
Construction of the Sacred Heart expiatory church began in 1902 following a neo-Gothic design and lasted six decades. The church was built on the highest point of the Serra de Collserola to be visible from across the city.
The name comes from the Latin phrase tibi dabo, used in a biblical scene where the devil shows Jesus all the kingdoms of the world. This connection to the temptation story shapes the religious symbolism of the site to this day.
The Funicular del Tibidabo brings visitors from the lower part of the city up to the summit and runs regularly during the day. Alternatively, buses and minibuses drive up the mountain, though the journey may take longer depending on traffic.
The amusement park on the summit opened in 1899 and is the oldest still operating park in Spain. A telecommunications tower on the peak has been broadcasting for decades and can be seen from many parts of the city.
