Torre de Collserola, Television tower in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, Spain.
Torre de Collserola is a 288-meter communications tower that rises above the Collserola mountain range on the northern edge of Barcelona. The structure consists of a steel frame with white tubular elements and multiple technical platforms connected by two elevator shafts that run through the center.
Architect Norman Foster designed the tower as part of the technical infrastructure for the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Construction began in 1991 and finished in June 1992, just weeks before the opening ceremony.
The tower received recognition as a Cultural Asset of Catalonia, marking its importance in the regional architectural and technological heritage.
The tower includes an observation deck that can be reached by elevator and offers views across Barcelona, the Mediterranean coast, and the surrounding mountain range. The deck sits at considerable height, so wind conditions may affect access on certain days.
The 13 equipment platforms inside the tower can rotate independently to counteract wind forces at different heights and maintain stability. This rotating mechanism helps keep the slender structure secure against lateral loads.
