Roman defensive walls of Tarragona

The Roman walls of Tarragona extend for one kilometer around the historic center, featuring three original towers and fortified defensive structures.

Built in the late 3rd century BC, these walls protected the Roman military garrison and underwent significant expansions during the 2nd century BC.

The walls form part of the Archaeological Ensemble of Tárraco, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since the year 2000.

Visitors can access the walls daily, with extended hours from May through December and shorter visiting periods during winter months.

The walls incorporate different construction techniques from various historical periods, including megalithic stones and Roman concrete methods.
