Madrid Nuevo Norte, Urban renewal project in northern Madrid, Spain
Madrid Nuevo Norte is a large urban development project in northern Madrid combining new residential blocks, office buildings, and shops around a central green corridor. A main park runs through the area connecting the northern parts with the southern zones of the city.
Plans began in the 1990s under the name Operation Chamartin and faced years of delays due to legal challenges. Madrid's government gave final approval in 2020, clearing the way for construction to start.
The development creates new neighborhoods with public squares and green spaces where people can meet and spend time together. These spaces mix housing, offices, and leisure areas in one connected area.
The area is served by three new metro stations and extensive walking and cycling paths that make moving around easy. The improved Chamartin railway station offers additional transport connections for those arriving or leaving.
A planned skyscraper will be about 330 meters tall and could become Europe's highest building if completed. This tower would reshape the skyline of northern Madrid in a striking way.
