Iroite, Mountain summit in Porto do Son, Spain.
Iroite is the highest peak of Serra do Barbanza, standing at 686 meters between the Muros and Noia estuaries. The mountain features multiple plateaus and slopes at varying elevations, creating different zones across its terrain.
The summit gained military importance in 1980 when a Spanish air surveillance squadron was stationed there. This unit was officially inaugurated in 1985 and continues to influence how the peak is used today.
The summit has drawn people for thousands of years due to its elevated position. Ancient burial chambers scattered across the plateau reveal how early inhabitants chose this high ground as a sacred burial place.
The mountain offers several launch sites for paragliding spread across different elevations and orientations. Visitors should familiarize themselves with the various slopes and plateaus to find the best position for their chosen activity.
The western slope offers views toward a beach that serves as a natural landing zone for paragliders. This beach lies several kilometers away and remains clearly visible from the summit.
