Torre de Vallferosa, Medieval watchtower in Torà, Spain
The stone tower rises 33 meters into the sky with walls measuring 3 meters thick and features a high entrance door positioned 10 meters above ground level.
Built around 970 CE, the fortification served as part of the defensive network established by the counts of Urgell to protect territories from Saracen invasions.
The structure exemplifies Romanesque military architecture of the 10th century, with its circular design and advanced defensive elements representing medieval engineering techniques.
Visitors need to arrange tours in advance through the Torà municipality office, as access to the interior requires special safety considerations.
The tower contains two concentric circular structures, with the outer shell added around 1000 CE to reinforce the original construction.
