Cúpula Venus, Theatre venue in El Raval, Barcelona, Spain
Cúpula Venus was a theater space located on the top floor of the Teatro Cine Principal Palace building at Ramblas 27, with seating for around 180 people. The same building housed other entertainment spaces throughout its history, including a billiards club that operated before and after the theater period.
The venue opened in 1978 during Spain's transition period after Franco, a time when Barcelona was exploring new artistic expressions. It operated until 1986 as part of a broader cultural movement bringing experimental performances to the city.
The space became known for hosting cabaret shows and musical performances that brought together local and experimental artists. It served as a gathering place where audiences could discover alternative forms of entertainment.
The building's location on the central Ramblas made it easy to access from main streets and thoroughfares. The theater spaces on the upper floors created an intimate setting suitable for smaller productions and artist performances.
The venue received the Aplaudiment award in 1980 for its contributions to Barcelona's music-hall scene, a recognition of its artistic importance. This honor was a rare acknowledgment of the role such experimental spaces played in the city's cultural life at that time.
