Church of Santa María de Uribarri, Durango

The Church of Santa María de Uribarri is a Gothic building with three naves and pointed windows that allow plenty of light inside. The space is crowned by a distinctive star-shaped vault and features a central altar.

The church originated in the 15th century with Gothic and Renaissance elements and was expanded in the early 17th century with Baroque and Classicist additions. These phases show how the building style changed over time.

The main altarpiece was created by sculptor Martín Ruíz de Zubiate and represents the religious art tradition of this region. The works inside reflect artistic development across several centuries.

The building is located at Calle Kanpantorrosteta 9 and can be entered through the main portal or a side entrance on the Epistle side. Visitors should check if the interior is open before traveling.

The wooden choir dates from the period of the Catholic Monarchs and is the oldest surviving original element in the church interior. This piece preserves important evidence from an early phase of the building.
