Parque Megalítico de Gorafe, Archaeological site in Gorafe, Spain
Parque Megalítico de Gorafe is an archaeological site containing around 240 dolmens spread across ten necropolises in the Gor River valley. These stone burial structures are scattered through red clay terrain and span approximately 20 kilometers across the landscape.
These monuments were constructed about 6000 years ago by early agricultural societies during the Bronze Age and reveal their burial practices. Large stones from local geological formations were carefully arranged to create graves for entire communities.
The burial chambers display different shapes like trapezoids and rectangles that reflect how these early communities buried their dead together. Each form tells something about the social groups and their beliefs at this location.
Visitors can explore 37 restored dolmens along three marked paths that start from the interpretation center in Gorafe village. The center displays archaeological finds and audiovisual materials to help you understand these ancient structures better.
The site is a certified Star Park for astronomical observation, where the night sky can be studied and the darkness reveals the ancient ruins in a different light. This connection between astronomy and archaeology makes visiting a memorable experience.
